Every one calls me Ray Allen. I grew up here in Champaign, Illinois, all the while watching my father, Ray Sr., successfully run his own studio., Vision World Tattoos. As a kid, my folks would bring me to work nearly every day. To pass time, I would trace and color all of our flash work on the wall. Often, I'd come to work early with Dad, and watch him get ready for customers. Back then, an artist's knowledge was a trade secret, and I was able to see it firsthand. I'd sit with customers and talk about their designs. Not a bad life for a nine-year-old. As a teenager, I would help my Dad with line drawings. I even went to conventions all over the country to watch top artist compete.
Today's artists definitely turned the industry into something almost unimaginable. I am proud to be part of it. I officially started as an artist in 2008 as an apprentice under Ray Sr. at Vision World Tattoos. As far as design, I like both black and grey and full color equally. Because of my own "colorful" upbringing, I am comfortable talking to anyone from any walk of life. So, whether you are a first-timer or straight-up ink addict, whether you want a simple name or a full sleeve, I am ready to sit with you and work out your masterpiece. My goal is listen to the clients idea's and create a one of a kind totally original tattoo design. This can be done freehand right on your skin. Or on paper first.
The experience and devotion to my art form is quite frankly a lifetime. 25 years of tattooing as well as 25 years of piercing expertise. Combined with the 45 years of doodling , and plan old common sense, as well as something every great artist must be born with, a great eye for art !
In person is my favorite way to discuss what you want and how I will do it. Though if your coming from far away a non refundable time specific deposit might be the way to go. Locals can stop by during my normal hours. I do take walkins when time allows.
One of the most common compliments I receive is the tattoos I apply bleed very little, hurt less , and heal bright with almost no scabbing!
